Down the rabbit hole we go.
Far beneath the earth’s surface.
Where The Dead wait for their savior.
We fall farther.
Deeper.
Past the point of no return.
PREY FOR THE DEAD
by Susanne Leist
Into the tunnel, we are thrown.
Been more careful if I had known.
We’re falling down a dark abyss.
Please, someone, give us an assist.
We’re falling too hard and fast.
This nightmare better not last.
Our time has come to an end
As we fly around the bend.
The Dead are waiting for us below.
I can hear them yelling out hello.
We land with a thump and a bang.
I’m now facing a big fat fang.
THE DEAD GAME
OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN — THE DEAD GAME
I’m surrounded by blood,
Blood on the walls
And flowing through my veins.
Blood is thicker than water,
Heavey and intense
As it trickles and oozes.
It flows through family members
Like a disease that can’t be stopped,
Bringing with it torment and anguish.
My only recourse is to escape
From within these walls
As I tunnel my way upward.
I want to be free from the evil,
Destroying me from within,
Keeping me from my family.
Our games have just begun.

THE DEAD GAME
Imprisoned beneath the earth.
Trapped for centuries.
A family lost to darkness.
Stuck between worlds.
For eternity.
Only one could save them.

WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE?
They were here.
Moments ago.
Women pushing strollers.
Joggers following the path.
Tourists holding cameras.
Where are they?
Take a peek inside.
The tunnel.
You’ll find them.
Lined in rows like wrapped packages.
Happy Birthday!
The mist follows me,
greedy fingers around my neck,
stalking my footsteps.
It takes form
and whisks me away
to the tunnels below.
Smoke fills my lungs.
It travels down my throat,
filling me with darkness
and evil.
THE DEAD GAME
Falling.
Deeper.
And deeper.
Into the abyss.
No lights.
No sounds.
Only hands.
Reach for me.
I can’t grab onto the walls.
They’re too slippery.
My fingers slide down.
Is there an end,
Or even a bottom?
Will I be falling forever?
Down, down I go.
Into the abyss.
No more worries.
No more thoughts.
Just the abyss.

The staircase gives way.
Linda slides into its deadly grasp.
A tunnel envelopes her.
Hands reach out for her.
Will I reach the bottom?
Is there even a bottom to this madness?
Who lives beneath End House?
Will I become one of them?
Into the unyielding darkness
Comes the cry, “Stop!”
Linda looks up to find Todd and Shana,
Clinging to the rocky walls.
The staircase reappears.
They climb to the front door.
Linda pulls on the handle.
It won’t budge.
“Open!” echoes in the hallway.
At Todd’s command,
The door opens for them.
The house pushes them out,
Slamming the door behind them.
Too terrified to glance back at Todd,
Linda races ahead to the car.
I can’t believe I was actually
Falling for him.
Linda’s problems have just begun.
