BENEATH THE TREE

Beneath the tree

The tree appears dark and looming.

It could use some proper grooming.

I want to take a walk between its legs,

growing tall from the ground like giant pegs.

By its rules, we must strictly abide.

Imagine the secrets it must hide.

Come walk with me in its dark shade.

Through the fallen leaves we will wade.

A canopy of leaves above our heads

As we fall asleep in our leafy beds.

A PURPLE TREE

BENEATH THE CYPRESS TREE

Cypress Lawn Memorial Park GarettPhotography

Evil waits for you and me

beneath the tall cypress tree.

It comes in the dark of night,

won’t leave without a good fright.

The mausoleum is dark.

We only came on a lark.

Time for us to run and go.

The wind says, “I don’t think so.”

THE TREE

1 The Tree

The tree spreads its limbs wide
to absorb the light of the sun.
Its leaves glow in the waning afternoon light.
Soon the sun will leave yellow trails
around the tree’s massive trunk
as it sets for the day.
The shadows grow longer.
The colors become dimmer.
The sun bows its head goodbye.
Looming shadows signal the next stage.
The glow of the moon takes centerstage.
The tree spreads its limbs wide
to absorb the light of the rising moon.
