WHAT IF…

“Is this house for the surprise party?

It doesn’t look as bad as people say.

Have people disappeared from here?

Tourists and residents don’t just vanish.

What about the family who lived here?

They disappeared five years ago.

No trace of them left behind.

Only the old house with its sagging windows.

Looks kind of run-down for a mansion.

We must check out the pools.

One inside and one in the backyard.

We might find some bodies floating in them.

I’m only kidding.

Hey, where did everyone go?

We are invited to a surprise party.

And I’m going inside.

Look, the door is opening for us.

The lights have shut off.

It’s sure dark inside.

Wait for me, guys.

I’m not going into End House alone.”

Would this have been the better option for Linda?

She could have left before it was too late.

But she didn’t.

A BODY IN THE NIGHT

MYSTERY

Where are we going in such a hurry?

With our bags all packed.

Fleeing the scene of a crime?

Perhaps a lover’s dispute?

The carriage is here.

Police sirens wail in the distance.

The story is getting better

as I watch

from my bedroom window.

The Dead GameThe Dead Game by Susanne Leist

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book introduces you to the small town of Oasis where there are missing people and unexplained murders. Why anyone would want to move there to begin with, or why anyone stays once they discover the creepy happenings that go on. I would freak out and move out of there so fast!

Linda and her group of friends get invited to this party at End house which most of them are not thrilled about. Linda flat out doesn’t want to go and neither does David. The one thing I will say about this is I am not sure why they did end up going. I was mildly perplexed for a second when Linda doesn’t have any desire to go and then she is talking about going. Since this is a supernatural book, I am willing to give credit to the supernatural forces that made her go.

After the tragedy that is this party, Linda finds herself getting closer and closer to Todd…the town hottie. He is also a very suspicious man who is always willing to inform the sheriff for people and then tell them not to say anything to anybody.

Linda is not satisfied and begins her own investigation with the help of one of her friends to get to the bottom of what is going on in town. During this investigation, they will face dangerous situations and dangerous beings.

The story line was fast paced and well written. My only comment is towards the end, there seemed to be quite a bit crammed in. It was all good twists and events but it was one of those where you think the big conflict has ended but then something else comes up and that took place a couple of times. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the twists that were thrown in there because of this and thought the addition was creative and intriguing.

The characters are well designed and I am rooting for Linda and Todd. There is just way too much tension there! This book is full of surprises and the author’s creativity is quite unique. It is creepy and will definitely get you thinking about disturbing shadows while you read it in the dark. I much enjoyed reading this story and am looking forward to checking out the second one!

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN — THE DEAD GAME — PART 18

I don’t feel anything.
No pain.
No guilt.
Only freedom and peace.

Arms pull me out of the water.
I’m laid down on the concrete.
Fun and relaxation is over.
Reality has reared it ugly head.

My eyes open to find dark eyes searching mine.
Todd is checking my breathing.
He’s searching for any injuries.
He holds me close.
Maybe a little too close.

I try to stand up.
I don’t want is concern.
I don’t want his pity.
I want to forget it all.

Holding me tighter, he says,
“Little one, you’re not going anywhere.
You almost drowned.
Why are you here alone?”

I stand up with my head held high.
“I was pushed.
I’m a good swimmer.
The water in the pool isn’t deep.”

“I thought you were hurt.
And why are you hanging around an empty pool?”
He gently moves wet strands of hair
Out of my face.

I still don’t trust him.
“Thanks Todd for your help,
But I’d better go inside.
It’s getting chilly.”

Todd takes off his jacket.
He wraps it around my shoulders.
With his arm around my waist,
He leads me into the hotel.

Always in control.
Always military stiff.
That’s my Todd.
Well, not my Todd.

Todd leaves me in the reception area.
He leans over and gives me a kiss.
On the lips.
He’s getting more daring.

He turns away
And walks out of the hotel
Into the dark night.
No goodbye.

And the games continue…

through revolving rooms. Or are they illusions? What should she do?

More About the Author

Susanne Leist

Biography

I have been reading murder mysteries and thrillers since I was a teenager. I’ve read all types of mysteries, from Agatha Christie to Sherlock Holmes. In recent years, I’ve begun to read paranormal mysteries. These books bring fantasy and the surreal to the simple murder mystery. It is hard to find books that combine paranormal with mystery. That is why I decided to write a paranormal, murder mystery of my own. It is the type of book that I search for and love to read.
My book, The Dead Game, has dead bodies and suspects like a traditional murder mystery. However, it also has humans, vampires, and vampire derivatives. And don’t forget the haunted house–we must have one of these.

                                   THE DEAD GAME

5 Stars

There is something painfully wrong about the seemingly perfect town of Oasis

ByPeter Garcia

Format: Kindle Edition

The opening pages of “The Dead Game” grab you at the ankles and drag into the deeper story. There is something painfully wrong about the seemingly perfect town of Oasis. Without getting into spoilers, here’s my take. Leist’s cast of characters are interesting in and of themselves. They do leave you wanting to get to know them better; yet, as in real life you only get to see the sides and masks that others want you to see. That, to me, was the author’s point. Everyone in Oasis seems to have an agenda, and it’s hard to know what to believe. With that in mind, Leist does a great job of bringing to life the picturesque town of Oasis, and the menacing End House. The book is reminiscent of tales like “House on Haunted Hill,” yet with its own twists on the supernatural thriller. The story is well-paced and the dangers faced by Leist’s characters feels terrifyingly real. All in all, a good read. I look forward to reading more works from this author.

THEY OWN THE NIGHT

Blue

Who dares to walk in the forest?

A forest tinged blue by the moon.

I sit each night, waiting.

Watching for intruders,

Who will soon fall victim to The Dead.

No one dares to challenge The Dead,

For they own the forest.

They own Oasis.

They own us.

They own the night.

BUTTERFLY FLY AWAY

phoenix-in-ashes:

BUTTERFLY FLY AWAY

Fly away my butterfly.

Up into the clearing sky.

Away from this park.

Away from the  dark.

I wish I could fly with you.

To a sky clear and blue.

I want to be free from this fight,

But this noose is holding me tight.

Farewell to Oasis and my friends.

This shouldn’t be how the story ends.
