Faces to the sky.
Lift them way up high.
Smiles so bright and wide.
You’ve nothing to hide.
Yellow hair to the sun.
It’s time to have some fun.
Long, green leaves clap to the song.
This morning, nothing is wrong.
Deep roots rumble in the ground.
To a beat, you’ve lost and found.
A field of dancers shakes the earth.
I watch as I bubble with mirth.
THE GATES
The gates encircle the property,
Their sharp edges pointing to the sky.
They deter all visitors,
Keeping the evil inside.
The house holds many secrets,
Some strange and unbelievable.
Windows are eyes to the soul
And mirrors to the unknown.
End House has invited us,
Extending a fancy invitation.
Do we dare follow our curiosity,
Or listen to our pounding hearts?
We are here for the night.
Time will only tell.
Whether we make it to morning
In this unholy hell.
THE DEAD GAME
A NEW BEGINNING
The rain hits the puddles
in staccato rhythm.
A constant
and mesmerizing sound.
Tree branches hang low,
weighed down with water.
Flowers lift their shiny faces
for their morning washing.
The cold, crisp rain
refreshes and renews.
The clouds dry out.
The sun returns
to brighten the day.
The air smells clean.
A new day dawns.
A new beginning.
Wilting.
Dry.
Strength taken
by the hot sun.
Need moisture.
Need shade.
Wait for the night.
Wait for the moon
to soothe your pain.
Dew in the morning to
to quench your thirst.
Be ready for a new day.
DEATH
Death is coming.
I wait in the darkness.
I can’t close my eyes.
I can hear the raindrops.
Pitter, patter, pitter, patter.
I can hear my heart.
Thump, thump, thump, thump.
On and on its goes.
Through the dark night.
Will the morning ever come?
I want to look at the night,
Gaze out into the unknown.
Dare to dream of flight,
A dream of conquering it all.
When night comes softly
On feet as light as air,
I can see more clearly
Of what I can dare.
Alone on this hilltop
With the embracing cold,
I will leap past boundaries
That I have created of my own.
Darkness hides all secrets
Beneath its cloak of despair.
Secrets that lie safe and secure
Until the morning light.
At night I can roam free
Without the hindrance of others.
I can leap over castle walls,
Sail forth on gossamer wings.
Looking down at all below me,
Sleeping in their beds of down,
I can see how I am different
And can never fit into the mold.
