A cemetery so shy
the dead and gone pass it by.
The graves hide in shame
from its silly name.
No mausoleums to grace it,
or fine tombstones to enhance it.
Please stay away from here.
The dead don’t want you near.

The dead don’t want you near.
The cobblestones glisten
outside the dark cemetery.
Gravestones stand tall
in the heavy fog.
Moans sweep the winds
that rustle the lifeless trees.
A gate stands open
to welcome the curious.
Footsteps draw closer
to my hiding place.
A cloaked figure enters
the home of The Dead.
It enters a mausoleum
with an angel standing guard.
Goosebumps riddle my body
as I inch forward from my spot.
Dark shadows drift to the door
that the figure has left open.
I can’t stand the suspense any longer
and so I must follow their lead.
I must find the secret lair
of The Dead and gone.
THE DEAD GAME SERIES
Cypress Lawn Memorial Park | GarettPhotography
Evil waits for you and me
beneath the tall cypress tree.
It comes in the dark of night,
won’t leave without a good fright.
The mausoleum is dark.
We only came on a lark.
Time for us to run and go.
The wind says, “I don’t think so.”

Walking alone in
a cemetery at night.
The mist swaying.
The wind moaning.
Shadows appearing.
Then disappearing.
Leading me somewhere.
Or maybe following me.
A statue looms ahead.
A tall statue.
Taller than the mausoleums.
It’s moving.
Coming closer.
Time to run.
Walking in a graveyard at night
may not have been such a good idea.
Ouch!
It scratched me!

Something is pulling me back.
Keeping me in this place.
Graves far into the distance.
A mausoleum paradise.
A hand is pulling me under.
Back into my hole.
I refuse to go back.
I refuse to be dead.

I will grow.
I will reach the stars.
I don’t care about the graves
or the mausoleums.
I don’t care that
The Dead
walk the night.
I will grow leaves.
I will stay here.
I will stay alive.

Would you walk alone in
a cemetery at night?
With the mist swaying
and the wind moaning.
Shadows appearing before you
and then behind you.
Are they leading you somewhere or
following in your hesitant footsteps?
A statue looms in the distance.
A very tall statue.
Taller than any of the
gravestones or mausoleums.
Now the statue is moving,
coming closer to me.
Time to run!
Walking in a graveyard at night
didn’t turn out to be such a good idea.
Ouch!
It scratched me!
