AN UNWELCOME SURPRISE

Lights sparkle like stars on the walls.

Spots of color guide my journey.

Past closed doors, I walk,

my head lowered, my steps slow.

I feel my way along the walls,

the lights warm beneath my fingertips.

A cold wind hits the back of my neck.

I turn to the dark corridor before me.

Dark shadows twist into shapes,

and an arm beckons to me.

Heart pounding in a tempo

matching my chattering teeth,

I stand frozen against the wall.

A knob hits me in the back.

My arm reaches behind, and I twist the knob.

I step back into the room.

The door shuts in my face.

I turn around.

Water flows beneath my feet.

An azure sky surrounds me.

I walk forward.

The scene fades to black.

A brisk cold wind replaces the warmth.

In the distance walks a woman wearing

a yellow raincoat and black rubber boots.

She approaches me with an ax in one hand

and a black garbage bag in the other.

I back against the door, jiggling the knob.

Locked.

She stands before me and smiles.

I lift my eyes to eyes shimmering blood red.

“Would you like to fill this bag for me?”

She raises the empty black bag.

I swallow the lump in my throat

and shake my head.

Dots of lights shoot before my eyes.

The room swims.

I shut my eyes

and fall to the ground.

A DARK DESTINY

WELCOME

1 book WELCOME TO THE PARTY

Welcome to our castle.

Not to be a hassle.

But please knock on the door.

It might open no more.

Until midnight strikes doom on the head.

All will be gone except for The Dead.

THE DEAD GAME

THE HUNT

The Hunt

sex-blood-and-death:

THE HUNT

It first comes slowly
in the dead of night.
Walking on silent feet,
it draws near.
You run faster,
but it speeds up.
You dash into a building,
an empty school.
It soon follows,
bringing with it a silence.
You can feel its presence
as it moves closer.
It follows you
down the deserted hallway.
You check the doors.
You jiggle the knobs.
They’re all locked.
You turn around
and stand strong.
Darkness falls
to encompass all.

AFTERNOON DELIGHT

1 Fantasies are a way of life

“Come back to me my sweet.
Take a break from the heat.
An afternoon in a cool retreat.
We could make our own special heat.”
The wood door rattles and creaks open wide.
I hesitate before I walk inside.
The small room is as dark as night.
I begin to tremble with fright.
Maybe I should leave this place.
The door slams shut in my face.
I hear the voice in the air
Telling me, “what fair is fair.”
I intruded on this secret room,
And so I won’t be leaving too soon.

BE STILL MY BEATING HEART

Can you feel your heart beating?

Is it beating too fast?

Do you feel trapped?

That is because you are.

You’re standing in a pool of water,

in the basement of End House,

wearing your party clothes.

There is a party,

but no host or guests.

The door behind you locks shut.

The only way is forward,

through the falling cages

with their sharp edges,

ready to ensnare their next victim.

Circular saws begin to descend,

looking for heads to slice off.

Run!

Run for your life!

The owner of End House takes no prisoners.

Kingdom Come

It welcomes.

It creaks.

It sighs.

Its door opens.

Candlelight streams out.

We peek inside.

Grim faces stare back.

Gargoyles stand sentinel

along the curving staircase.

The wind brushes our skin

with its unseen fingers.

Candles light the way

down the right hall.

Shadows move and sway

with the flickering candles.

The door locks behind us.

We’re in for the ride.

End House has spoken.
