A MAGICAL NIGHT
It is a magical night for a party.
Beautiful couples dance
between the glass statues.
Fancy gowns draped
on perfect bodies.
The party at the glasshouse is perfect.
Maybe a little too perfect.

THE DEAD GAME
The guests are dancing.
Between frozen statues.
Statues of ice.
Sad expressions for eternity.
They appear alive.
Tears flowing down
their frosty cheeks.
Tears that appear wet.
This glass house holds terrors.
Beneath the music and gaiety
lies an undercurrent of evil.
Time to leave this fake paradise.
To leave the perfect guests.
To escape if one can.
Escape this deadly game
of The Dead.

Follow the lights to the house of glass.
There will be much splendor in the grass.
Lights in the trees as far as the eye could see.
A more decadent event there could not be.
Champagne will be flowing until the wee hours.
Come with me and dance among the pretty flowers.
This room full of guests gives me a chill.
Maybe we should leave I’ve had my fill.
Eyes are following us in the room.
They will be upon us all too soon.
The guests are not what they appear.
Beneath they are just bones and hair.

A masquerade ball.
One of my favorite events.
Hidden behind disguises,
people reveal more.
More than they should.
They will dance and drink the night away.
Swaying to the music.
Bodies relaxing.
Tongues loosening.
Ah..to be a fly on the wall.
I will wear my mask and heels.
A long silky dress.
A smile on my face.
I’m ready for adventure.
Who shall I pick?
The man surrounded by beauties.
The man sitting sullenly by the bar.
Or the man observing everyone
from a distance.
I choose him.
He’s looking over at me.
Is that a wink for me beneath his mask?
He is tall, dark, and handsome.
My perfect type.
Who is he?
I don’t care.
He’s all mine for this evening.
Come to the party.
There will be dancing
and plenty of champagne.
A glass house
with perfect guests
in ballgowns and tuxedos,
circling the dance floor
under sparkling chandeliers.
Frozen statues sprinkled about.
A mermaid fountain waiting
in the rose garden.
Nothing could be better
or more perfect.
That is, until the clock
strikes midnight.
All freeze to the sound.
Many ascend the clear
staircase to the rooms above.
Where have they gone?
And why?
We are left to wonder
with the dwindling number
of guests.
Will our fate be sealed
on this night?
Come and help us.

REMINDS ME OF THE SCENE IN MY BOOK,
WHERE THE MUSIC BEGINS TO PLAY
AND THE GUESTS MOVE TO THE DANCE FLOOR
TO DANCE THE WALTZ.
