IT WAITS

End House looms in the foggy distance.

It was taken without resistance.

It belongs to The Dead.

They have made their own bed.

Wolf’s family live beneath the house,

Crawling through dark tunnels like a mouse.

I fear the Oasis nights.

Terror taken to new heights.

Wolfs’ family waits below

For when they could shriek hello

And return to town with force,

Wolf leading on a black horse.

A WORLD IS WAITING FOR ME

byronegg
Something for Mysterious Ways magazine. Thanks AD Doug Snyder.

Please open the book for me.

A world is waiting for me.

I want to travel far away.

To places I can’t even say.

I might step into the woods.

Trees tall as houses with hoods.

The grass is soft and green like spun cotton.

The hooting owls leave me besotten.

I might enter a dark castle.

Filled with trapdoors and spider webs.

Dungeons waiting in the basement.

Ghostly figures wandering by.

I would eagerly go on a quest.

As far as China or the high seas.

Once I open a book to read,

An adventure is waiting for me.

THE RIGHT TIME

An entity all its own.

A living,

Breathing,

Force.

Walls hiding spirits.

Dungeons holding demons.

Secrets held close.

Evil held in check.

Until the time.

The right time.

The Dead will return.

They will walk

The earth

Once again.

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN — THE DEAD GAME — PART 27

The second book has yet to be written,
Words to cover the blank pages.
Linda has yet to begin her journey
To face The Dead on their home turf.

The Dead has wrought their havoc on Oasis,
A town with losses too numerable to count.
Deaths centered upon an evil house,
Where people are lured to their ultimate end.

The winds cover any trace of the lost and forgotten.
The sands of time hide the memories of their lives.
Those who have walked in the remote town
Leave no trace of themselves behind.

Linda is determined to unearth the evil secrets,
Hidden too long beneath the forest floor.
Tunnels and dungeons crisscross beneath,
Laying the groundwork for a new kingdom.

Who will they find behind the metal door?
Wolf’s mysterious kingdom of murderers?
The time has come to open the door.
I must now pick up my pen and paper.

Our games have just begun.

THE DEAD GAME

OUR GAMES HAVE JUST BEGUN — THE DEAD GAME —PART 26

One more smack of my shovel
And the earth’s slumber is cut short.
The ground rumbles and shakes,
Moving debris away from the fresh hole.

The trees step back in horror,
Removing their canopy of leaves.
The sun sneaks a peek into the abyss,
Where a door waits to be opened.

One more shake, rattle, and roll
And the door is lifted into standing position.
What was once below in the darkness
Has now been moved above into the sunshine.

This door has powers not yet fully realized.
It has opened to fantasies and dreams
Of the fishermen and their families.
Offering them escape from violent attacks and storms.

It has also opened to trap our dear friends
In the dungeons below End House.
One step at a time I will take
Into the descending realms of the supernatural.

The coldness envelopes me with its cold breath.
Icy fingers run up and down my spine.
Dark shadows dart by too quickly to be seen.
But I know that I am not alone down here.

I huddle with my friends for warmth.
We walk as one down the corridors of time.
Life has no dominion down here.
Death is the ruler of the day.

A closed metal door stands before us.
This is the moment that makes or breaks heroes.
We are beyond any fear of consequences.
We’ve been through this too many times before.

A DOOR IN THE FOREST

A Door in the Forest

A DOOR IN THE FOREST

The house is gone.
All that’s left is ash.
And the door.

The door to the dungeons.
Where The Dead had lived.
And died.

I can see dark shadows.
In the distance.
Are they coming for us?

I thought they were all gone.
What had happened to The Dead?
Are they gone or still lingering?

The earth is rumbling.
The door is shaking.
We’d better leave.

Right Now!

THE DEAD GAME — GAME OVER?

waves by shore
End House was gone but the game wasn’t over for Linda and her friends.

As the ground closed up, Linda noticed that the left section of the End House remained standing for a few moments before it also dissolved into the ground. She didn’t know if she had imagined it or if that section had survived in a transparent form before it had gone underground. She thought back and tried to remember if she had ever entered that side of the house. She realized that the answer was no; she didn’t even know what had been there.

Turning to Todd, she asked, “Did you happen to see anything unusual with the left side of the house?”

Todd look confused. “No. What did you see?”

“The left side lingered for a while in a shadowy form, before melting into the ground. What was on that side?”

“Nothing much—the first floor had an empty ballroom, and the upstairs had two empty bedrooms. And…oh. There was a locked door leading down to the tunnels beneath the house.”

“What was in those tunnels? And where did they lead?”

Todd said, “I haven’t heard anything recently about the tunnels. I don’t think anyone has gone down there for quite some years. There have been many rumors circulating about the tunnels being dungeons where people were trapped and tortured. I do remember hearing that the door wouldn’t open for anyone.”

“Well, the left side of the house is now also underground in these tunnels. The dungeons could hold any number of evils. Maybe Tom and Edward—and possibly other humans, who’ve disappeared from town—could be down in those dungeons. Remember, we visited the tunnels when the stairs extended themselves below End House. It was terrifying down there with all those ghoulish creatures grabbing at us. The tunnel seemed to descend forever into a dark pit.”

“Let’s not worry about this now. Maybe nothing will come of it—and if it does, we can deal with it in the future. I don’t want to frighten the others more than they have been already.”

Linda nodded her head. But she didn’t agree. She wasn’t going to sweep this secret under the rug. If Tom and Edward were trapped down there, then she was going to find a way to free them. She was not going to allow demons to control her town and her friends any longer.

WAITING FOR YOU

Does End House call to you?

Is it beckoning for you to enter?

The door is opening.

It’s slightly ajar.

The darkness inside

is waiting for you.

Waiting for its next victim.

Are there creatures trapped

in its walls?

Humans caught in its dungeons?

Come inside.

We are all waiting for you.

Candles will light your way.

Down the slippery steps

to the basement.

Or maybe upstairs to

the revolving rooms.

Revolving to reveal

one horror after another.

Come on and let’s party.

The Dead love their games.

Who is their fearless leader?

The evil one controlling the town.

Clues abound,

waiting for you to find.

So many questions.

So little time.

WAITING FOR YOU

mstrkrftz:

The Dark Stronghold by Kilian Schönberger

Step inside.

It is dark.

But don’t worry.

We are waiting for you.

Waiting for such a long time.

The walls are moving.

That’s because they’re

happy to see you.

Those aren’t arms and legs

pushing through the concrete.

The front door is locked?

Why don’t we go upstairs?

Look at the pretty staircase.

Gargoyles at each end.

They aren’t laughing with you

but at you.

Why you ask?

Because these aren’t stairs anymore,

but a long tunnel

to the dungeons below.

Try to grab hold of the walls.

I’m so sorry they are slippery.

Do you feel like you’re falling?

That’s because you are.

Falling deeper into the tunnel.

What lies below?

Why ruin the suspense?

You’ll find out

once you hit rock bottom.

Games could be

so much fun.
