ANGELS BELOW

I must escape this hell.

where The Dead trap me,

try to snare me

with their evil ways.

I must find a way out

of this dungeon

to the world above.

The angels will show the way.

Angels above,

angels below,

please help me.

PAST THE POINT OF NO RETURN

Chair

Down the rabbit hole we go.

Far down beneath the earth’s surface.

Where The Dead wait for their savior.

Arms extended.

Reaching for us.

Mouths held open in silent cries.

As we fall farther.

Deeper.

Past the point of no return.

THE DEAD GAME

MY STORY

All stories have an end.
This is mine.
I live behind this door.
No one visits.
As footsteps draw near,
I look out the peephole.
I never answer the bell.
I slink away into my dungeon
of lost hopes and dreams.
Neighbors stay away.
Family doesn’t...

Would you?

CANDLES ON THE WALLS

The candles on these walls

throw shadows down the halls.

Shadows that float in the air,

horrors that I cannot bear.

Soft sighs follow in their wake,

my insides begin to quake.

Gargoyles stare at us from above,

I’m thrust forward by a hard shove.

Revolving rooms lead us through a maze.

I follow along, lost in a daze.

I ask, “How do we get out of here?”

My hands covering my face in fear.

Am I standing in a flood?

I look down at all the blood.

It flows from the indoor pool.

As you know I’m not a fool.

I’m out of here as quick as can be.

There’s nothing else I want to see.

A DOOR IN THE FOREST

A Door in the Forest

A DOOR IN THE FOREST

The house is gone.
All that’s left is ash
And the door.

The door to the dungeons.
Where The Dead lived
And died.

I can see dark shadows
In the distance.
Are they coming for us?

I thought they were all gone.
What happened to The Dead?
Are they gone or still lingering?

The earth is rumbling.
The door is shaking.
We’d better leave.

Right Now!

DOWN WE GO!

DEEP HOLE

buron:

Syd’s Opal Daydream v (11)

©buron – May ‘14

Come into my darkness.

My deepest depths.

Where dreams and nightmares flourish.

And light is held at bay.

Come in and be lost.

Lost in my utter despair.

Where loneliness and horror

are the rules of the day.

LET’S REVISIT YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE

EXCERPT FROM THE DEAD GAME

Chapter 32

Intense feelings of claustrophobia began to overwhelm Shana in the narrow, confined space. The air was becoming heavier and thicker. She thrust her hand in front of her, where she could feel the air: it felt strangely thick and spongy. When she tried to move her arm back down, she found that it was being held firmly in place. She was being sucked into the unyielding darkness, where some unnatural force was probably lying in wait for them.

She felt a slight shift in the air—possibly even a slight breeze. The darkness slowly lifted and loosened its hold on her arm. She turned to flee, but her hasty escape was interrupted by a high-pitched, blood-curdling scream. What now? What else could be in store for them?

She looked ahead into the darkness and spotted Louise, standing as still as a statue with her huge blue eyes wide open in horror as she stared at the far end of the tunnel. The group edged closer to Louise and watched the bizarre scene that was being played out in front of them.

In the darkness of the tunnel, a light was being projected on one small area. In this subdued light sat a woman in rocking chair, rocking a baby in her arms while humming a sweet lullaby. To Shana, the scene looked very peaceful and serene—which didn’t at all fit with Louise’s terrified reaction.

She asked Louise, “Why are you so afraid? Who is that lady with the baby?”

Louise replied, “It’s my mother holding me. I’ve seen this scene numerous times in old pictures. My mother had died when I was only a baby.”

“This scene has to be one recreated from you own imagination. Before our minds are toyed with any further, we must turn around and leave. Right now!”

Louise grabbed Shana’s outstretched hand and followed her back through the tunnel.

Light the candles.

Follow me through

the empty corridors.

Past dark rooms.

Down a long flight of stairs.

To the dungeons below.

Where shadows await us.

Waiting for company.

To wile away their empty hours.

Perhaps a game or two for us to play.

A game to lighten their boredom.

A pool of water appears before us.

Cages descend from above.

Their pointy edges facing us.

Circular saws soon follow.

What kind of hell are we in?

What kind of game are we playing?

Come closer to find out.

The Dead love to play.

FALLING

Susanne Leist's photo.

The opulent staircase gives way.
Linda slides into its deadly grasp.
A tunnel envelopes her.
Hands reach out for her.
A thick, spongy darkness.
Walls too slippery to grab.
Cries fill the endless void.

Will I reach the bottom?
Is there even a bottom to this madness?
Who lives beneath End House?
Will I become one of them?
Forever roaming the dark tunnels,
Not really dead but one of the undead.

Into the unyielding darkness comes a cry.
“Stop!”
Linda looks up to see Todd and Shana,
Clinging to the rocky walls.
It was Todd who had called out.
The tunnel dissolves.
The stairs return.

They run down the staircase
And make it to the front door.
Linda pulls on the handle.
It won’t budge.
“Open!”
At Todd’s command,
The door opens for them.
The house pushes them out.
The door slams behind them.

Too terrified to look at Todd,
Linda races ahead to the car.
If Todd has powers,
Then he might be one of The Dead.
He could be evil like the rest of them.
I can’t believe I was actually
Falling for him.
