Candles climb the stairs as sentries of the night.
We’re invited to a party in a dark, deserted house.
No host to welcome us as the door opens to the candlelight.
THE DEAD GAME has begun.
A house dark and bleak.
I can’t even speak.
Dark shadows glare at me
Where clear windows should be.
Dare I venture inside?
I will swallow my pride
And cross the threshold
without being rash or bold.
There’s a secret party inside.
I wonder if I should run or hide.
Who’s the host of this feast,
Man or dangerous beast?

The house is deserted.
Slippery stairs take us to the basement.
The lights flicker.
The door slams shut.
I run to the door and turn the knob.
It’s locked.
Waves hit the house.
Is that why the floor is wet?
A creaking noise comes from above.
Cages descend.
Circular saws soon follow.

We walk through the house
of empty rooms.
Each one furnished with
a different period from history.
A dining room that can seat
a hundred people.
A gourmet kitchen that sparkles
white with bare counters.
A crystal chandelier hangs above
the marble floor empty of dancers.
Our guide bids us a quick goodbye.
We are outside again, standing on the
stone and weeds of the driveway.
The house crumbles from the outside,
but inside, it’s ready to hold court.
For whom?
We don’t know.
But we will
Once we enter the deadly game.

Step inside.
A mansion is waiting.
It might appear deserted,
rundown and unused.
The inside tells
a different story.
Walk on marble floors
through rooms of delight.
Rooms of different eras,
reflecting a dead man’s dreams.
A man with no life or future,
who waits for the end of time.
A house fit for a prince
or a prince of darkness.

Let’s play The Dead Game.
No one is safe.
Players can be alive or dead.
The Dead control the rules.
They own the game.
A maze of death awaits.
Circular saws hang in the basement.
Ready to have your heads chopped?
Body parts fall in the fireplace.
Do those limbs belong to your friends?
Ladies and gentlemen,
the game has begun.
Run for your life!

The house sits empty.
Spirits walk the hallways,
waiting for life and sounds
to enter the house again.
Waiting can be pure agony
when you have nowhere else to go.
Inside Edinburgh’s castle. Scotland
A castle where spirits walk.
Darkness hides in corners.
Old fragrances float in the air.
Shadows follow without footsteps.
And sighs fill the empty spaces.
Creepy.
Dark and deserted.
Overgrown lawn.
Whispers in the wind.
The house calls.
It beckons.
The night falls.
And so do the footsteps.
Once regal.
Once opulent.
Dancing in the moonlight.
Beneath crystal chandeliers.
Now crumbling.
Soon to be dust.
Moments lost in time.
Never heard from again.
A place of desolation.
Stairs leading to nowhere.
For no one.
