TRAPPED IN WONDERLAND

Crowds of people.

Cars honking.

People pushing.

Where are they going?

A blur to me.

A mass of humanity.

Hurrying to their end.

No individuality.

No manners.

A need to get somewhere fast.

Trapped in their thoughts.

In a hurry to go nowhere.

MY DAY BY THE SEA

A walk down the street.

Fragrances so sweet.

White cobblestones line the way.

Here is where I want to stay.

Away from the madding crowd.

A place where I can be proud

To call my new home.

I don’t need a phone.

All I need is a soft bed

To lay down my weary head.

Fishermen’s cries will wake me

To start my day by the sea.

MOVE TOO FAST

Life moves too fast.

People rushing back and forth.

Where are they going?

Do they reach their destinations?

Rushing.

Everything a blur.

Faces and lights flashing by.

Stop!

Take a breath.

What happened to enjoying life?

Living for the moment.

When does that happen?

A SECRET PLACE

A secret place.

A place to hide.

To call your own.

Far from the madding crowd.

To think.

Perhaps to dream.

Of better times.

Of better lives.

Of choices.

Important decisions.

To escape.

Into the darkness.

Of your own mind.

And be you.

SEND IN THE CLOWNS

The line is long

for the Ferris Wheel.

You wait.

And wait.

Then you’re on the ride.

You’re soaring high

above the crowds.

Feeling the wind

in your hair.

The ride stops short.

You’re at the top,

looking down.

You wait.

And wait some more.

Nothing is moving.

Except for the clowns.

Clowns are climbing the ride.

They’re pulling people from

their seats, and flinging

them to the ground below.

How could this be happening?

It could if it’s a dream.

I close my eyes,

praying it’s a dream.
