LOST AT A CARNIVAL

LOST AT A CARNIVAL

I’m lost at a carnival,

A carnival of nightmares.

A clown leers at me.

The knife-thrower aims

But misses.

I run into a tent.

Mirrors surround me,

Distorting my reflection.

I flee into the darkness,

Crashing through a mirror.

Glass rains on me.

I’m in a dark room.

The floor spins.

I grab for the walls.

They are wet and shiny.

There’s no way out.

The floor bottoms out,

And I’m falling.

SEND IN THE CLOWNS

The hotel room is quiet.

The furniture looks shabby.

A dim light glows from a

small bedside lamp.

The carpet is worn from

years of footsteps.

You hear a strange noise.

A high-pitched static sound.

A sound emanating from the old T.V. set.

The black and white screen is on.

But you didn’t turn on the T.V.

A clown’s face appears on the screen.

He looks at you and says,

“Why are you here?

How dare you enter my room!

If you don’t leave right away,

I will just have to kill you.”

At first, you think it’s silly.

He’s only an image on a screen.

But then his hand reaches out.

Through the screen.

His fingers have long red nails.

His body begins to emerge.

He’s here.

For you.

You are no longer alone.

THE DEAD GAME

THE DEAD GAME

Why do clowns appear
And then come so near?
In my nightmares they cavort
With one another for sport.

I’m afraid to lay my head down.
For I might see another clown.
With their evil grins.
And quivering chins.

The carnival they roam.
So I’m writing this tome.
To leave clues to my demise
If the clowns aren’t too nice.

In a town such as Oasis.
There are few friendly faces.
For the clowns haunt my nights.
And bring with them more frights.

Am I stuck in a nightmare?

Does the clown have four eyes,

eyes that are bulging from his head?

Am I hallucinating?

Are the rooms in End House really revolving?

Are cages falling down on us from the basement’s

ceiling, with pointy edges to better catch innocent victims.

We are trapped in the basement of End House.

Our only choices are to either dodge the cages and circular saws

that are hovering over the dark pool of water on the basement floor,

or to forge ahead and check out the three

closed doors on the far wall of the room.

Neither option seems promising.

There has to be a way out of End House.

Hatchet job

If you enter a house and find a hatchet

dug deep into the piano,

I would suggest turning around as fast

as you can and run for your lives.

Nothing good could be waiting for you inside.
