It is time, my friends, I sigh.
To spread my wings and learn to fly.
My heart is heavy, but my spirit soars high.
I seek a proper way to say goodbye.
Life has become a selfish way to be.
There is no ‘we’ but only the greedy ‘me.’
The world has lost its appeal to me.
I need to escape and learn to fly free.
Mother Nature will guide my journey.
As the birds follow the land & the sea.
So too, I will take the next step I see.
A hesitant but vital step to being free.
I close my eyes and touch the sky.
My body rises above the tallest tree.
As the puffy clouds make room for me.
The birds circle me as I fly free.
👌👌

Thank you so much. I should write more poetry in the middle of the night while on Ambien. A separate part of my brain must be at work.

It sounds like you’re shaking off some tethers, Susanne. Our spirits can fly free no matter what our circumstances. This sounds like a goodbye poem as much as a ‘hello, freedom’ poem. I’m hoping it’s an expression of hope for the future!
Blessings!

You hit the mark. I’m attempting to shake off some people from my life while I work on building my hope.

Flying free releases a Person to find him or herself. The last three lines of your poem expresses that beautifully.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure about the last line since birds circle dead bodies. But we don’t know our end.
