Alison Scarpulla
ALONE
Alone with my thoughts.
Lost in my dreams.
A deserted forest.
Empty of people.
Devoid of sound.
No movement.
No sunlight.
Only endless trees.
Where my thoughts ring
loud and clear.

THE CURVE
Takes one to be different.
To strike out alone.
To pave the road.
For others.
Take me down the road.
All the way down.
Beneath the city.
To what lies below.
To the darkest depths.
Where no one dares to tread.
To the real city.
The sun peeks through
a canopy of leaves.
A blanket of flowers
covers and protects me.
They shelter me with
their petals of pink.
Sheets of softest green
touch my skin.
The perfect spot for the weary.
Tigers pace in their cages,
Waiting to be set free.
Animals fill the basement.
An awful sight to see.
Leashes jangle against bars.
Metal against metal rings loud.
As the gates slowly lift open,
Pointy teeth glisten without sound.
This cannot be happening.
This cannot be so.
No way are there tigers
in the basement below.
THE DEAD GAME
by ehsan-safavie
He comes in the night,
Ready for the fight.
He’ll slay us alive.
No one will survive.
His eyes burn blood red,
Gleaming in his head.
He leads The Dead right to me.
I won’t go on bended knee.
The creatures will be here.
Their footsteps are too near.
I bow my head to pray.
Let us live one more day.

Tufted Titmouse
What is the snowman’s breakfast?…
Frosted flakes!
Interesting Fact: The Black-crested Titmouse of Texas and Mexico has at times been considered just a form of the Tufted Titmouse. The two species hybridize where they meet, but the hybrid zone is narrow and stable over time. They differ slightly in the quality of their calls, and show genetic differences as well. THE FIGHT
Night into the day.
Day into night.
I’m swept away
As I hold tight.
The night numbs me,
Making me cold.
The days rush by
As I grow old.
I prefer day
When the sun shines.
The night is fey,
Dark through the pines.
Night into day.
Day into night.
Days become grey,
No strength to fight.
RETREAT
A place for our dreams,
An earthly retreat.
Follow my heart’s beat.
Can you feel the heat?
The earth is alive.
Its core is on fire.
Come with me, darling.
I feel your desire.
It’s all too soon gone.
The door is closing.
It’s being washed out
By the sea’s hosing.
Don’t run from the truth.
Please come back to me.
You can’t turn away.
I know you love me.
