First, A Little About Me

I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I graduated with an MBA in Finance. Over the years, I felt something lacking in my life. An outlet for my creativity.

I’ve always loved to read. I grew up with Agatha Christie, Alistair Maclean and so many others who filled my imagination with intrigue and mystery. The TV show, Murder She Wrote, kept me entertained when I wasn’t reading late into the night.

In recent years, my taste in books has broadened to include the supernatural and paranormal genres, which is reflected in my new selection of shows, such as Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.

My first book, The Dead Game, is a paranormal suspense/mystery. I’ve brought together all of my favorites and created an enticing package of mystery, paranormal and horror. It brings fantasy and the surreal to the simple murder mystery. It has dead bodies and suspects. However, it also has humans, vampires and vampire derivatives. A touch of romance is thrown in to spice up the mix.

Time for our games! You can leave as many answers as you like to each question.

Come One, Come All to the Greatest Book on Earth!

The games will be dark.

They will be scary.

The Dead take no hostages.

Stand back.

Eyes wide open.

And enjoy!

THE DEAD GAME

Linda moves to a seaside town to live a quiet life. She opens a bookstore and makes new friends. Life is simple–that is until the dead body washes up on shore. Linda is horrified to find that dead bodies and disappearing tourists are common for this small town. As soon as the sun sets, the residents and tourists are stalked by dark shadows. But this is only the beginning.

Linda and her friends receive an unsigned invitation to a party at a deserted house. They are pursued through revolving rooms and dangerous traps, barely escaping with their lives. Two of their own remain trapped in the house. Or so they think.

They must embark on a difficult journey, chased by unnatural creatures, not knowing whom to trust, to uncover the one controlling the game and everyone in town. Who are The Dead? Are they humans or vampires? Or a combination of both? Will Linda and Todd find love?

The Dead Game has begun.

GAME 1

Three doors are waiting to be opened in the basement of End House. After trudging through a pool of water with descending circular saws and falling cages, Linda and her friends must find a way out of the evil house. What would you expect to find behind these doors? You are only limited by your imagination.

The best answer wins a kindle copy of The Dead Game.

Good luck!

WINTER FANTASY

GAME 2

A ball in a glass house.

Nothing can be as nice.

Snow falling on the trees.

Whispers in the soft breeze.

Snow falls on the small town of Oasis, Florida. The young residents arrive at the glass house dressed for the ball. Linda dances The Waltz with Todd, unaware of the dark undercurrents flowing through the cold room. Foreign visitors soon join the party. At midnight, the dance floor clears. The original residents keep many secrets but none as deadly as the meeting being held on the floor above.

What secret is the town protecting? Best answer wins.

GAME 3

I am presently writing the second book of The Dead Game series. The Dead return to Oasis with a vengeance. They bring horror to a new level.

But I need a title for this book. I would like to use the words, “The Dead,” in the name. Whoever gives the best answer will win a kindle copy of The Dead Game. I might even use it as the title of my book. If that happens, I will award a signed copy of my book.

Thinking caps on everyone!

Thank you for joining our games.

Don’t forget to stop in and check out the other tour stops at https://ravereviewsbynonniejules.wordpress.com/rrbc-2017-springtime-book-blog-block-party/

THE WINNERS ARE:

I received so many great answers to my questions that it was hard for me to choose only three. These are worthy winners for many reasons.

  1. Nancy Burgess for her answer about a portal deep in the forest. Little does she know, but book 2 traps characters in a time portal in the woods behind Oasis.
  2. Mary Schmidt for The Dead Awaken. I’m thinking about that one. Her answer about an icy staircase and cold furniture is creepily close to the rooms in Oasis’ glass house.
  3. Larry Landgraf for The Dead Rule. One of my new top choices.

Very unique approach and a wonderful fun game at your block party.
Game 1 – Behind the doors lies a secret cemetery of first born boys
Game 2 – The town is protecting the ID of the mass killer of the children since she is one of the mothers and a pillar within the town
Game 3 – Suggested title: The Dead Games – Decorated Bodies

I like morbid but you’ve outdone me. A cemetery of dead children. One of the plagues in Egypt was to kill all first borns. Very appropriate since Passover and Easter have just passed.

Great idea for a blog party. Game 3 – Avenging Dead, The Returning Dead, Deadly Homecoming or Deathly Homecoming, Death Returns Loudly or Death Returns Softly (according to how it returns). Death Come Calling. Where the Dead Lay, Deathly Beginnings, Rise of the Dead. Okay I’ll stop.

I just saw a series “The Returned” and I liked that title. Different people from different deaths from different years returned. Some only wanted their lives back and others wanted to destroy the lives of others, etc.

For Game 1 I could only think that they had to swim through sea creatures before they reach the door.

For Game 2 – Secret: There’s a father of all the vampires. The main one to which they all came. The others keep him hid because although he’d be almost impossible to kill, if he was, they’d all die. But on a certain date every year, they have to let him loose to get his feel. It’s a deal they made centuries ago.

I like The Dead Return. There is a leader of The Dead. He is the strongest vampire. The Elders meet at a certain time each year to discuss The Dead. But my vampires don’t die if he dies. That sounds like Klauss on The Originals, where whomever they’ve sired is linked to the Originals’ family. Sea creatures sounds creepier than the wild animals I used. Great ideas!

I think there was an episode on supernatural that was similar to what I mentioned. There was one main sire, and if he was killed all the vampires died. In The Originals, if any of the original vampire family is killed, whoever they sired also died until they severed that tie one season. When this first came out, those on the Vampire Diaries who wanted to kill Klauss didn’t because they weren’t sure who the original sire of their vampire line was.

I remember the episodes on both shows. I believe Supernatural has affected my writing the most. Not the specific stories but its wit and humor. I’ve been careful not to copy any of their plot twists. I use vampire lore (not garlic) and bits and pieces from movies and TV shows. I did add a few twists of my own with The Watchers and The Elders.

The first door leads into a room with three doors, an endless series of portals returning visitors to where they started. The second door opens to a gust of wind blowing them into a vortex of sea water that pulls them under and drowns them before sending their bodies to wash up on the town’s beach. The third door puts them at the back of a long line of people, so they take their place and eventually work their way forward to discover they’re at a Susanne Leist book signing! The meeting at the glass house is for selecting a new host for their dead-world game show where dead contestants win a chance to take over the bodies of living residents and have a new shot at life. The name of the second book, then, should refer to that game show: The Dead Show, Live at Oasis!

Thanks for a fun post, Susanne!

Ooh, this is fun! First of all, The Vampire Diaries were one of my favorites back when I had time to watch TV. Ian Somerhaulder is my boyfriend (he just doesn’t know it). 😉

    Now, for the games…

#1 – Trapped victims. Linda and her friends must decide whether to try to free the victims from their bondage or save themselves. Each victim has a different kind of bondage and is surrounded by a risk (fire, snakes, knives, poisonous gas, etc). Time is of the essence, so if they spend time saving the victims and don’t find a way out, they all die. If they find a way out and leave the victims, the victims’ deaths will be their fault.

#2 – The secret is that the founding memories from centuries ago are still alive and are in the room above, watching the dancers below. They are choosing whom to induct into their everlasting group of town citizens.

    #3 – Avenge the Dead

    Thanks for the fun! 🙂

Great answers. Somerhaulder has the deepest blue eyes. #2 is correct. The founding members are meeting upstairs. They have problems to solve. I like the idea of inducting new members, like a fraternity.

My top choice so far is The Dead Watchers, since The Watchers monitor vampire activity. By the time I finish the second book, I’ll most probably be tired of it. The Dead Avengers are now in the running.

    1. Distant screams emanate behind the doors as they become a maelstrom of spinning doors encircling them. As if beckoning them to enter, they do so and find themselves standing on the edge of a precipice, a deep chasm filled with distant screams. As they realize the chasm is bottomless, the door behind them closes and disappears. They turn around and realize the distant screams are their own. …

    2. In the blink of eye and as if by magic, the dance ends and everyone slowly disappears except the two of them. with no exit to be found, and hearing voices upstairs, they slowly climb the icy staircase. At they top they vanish and upon awakening find themselves in a water room, a room like no other. The floor, walls, and ceiling are like no other; they are made of pure water, yet nothing keeps the eater in place. They can touch the ice cold water walls and feel the dampness but the water stays in place with a gravity unknown. As their bodies begin to float in the only air, and oxygen to be found, a thunderous sound is head. More than a banshee and yet …
